The combination of fruit has a delicious flavor while still being packed with protein, fiber and so many vitamins. There many wonderful benefits of blueberries, full of antioxidants, high in potassium and vitamin c paired with high protein chia seeds and Maca Powder, this smoothie will leave your belly full and loaded with energy for your day.
Our family loves smoothies and has fun turning them into healthy and full filling snacks. Tropical Avocado Smoothies is a kid friendly smoothie that sneaks in a few healthy ingredients while Strawberry Banana Smoothie Popsicle are a fun treat that can be enjoyed for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
Frozen Fruit- Made up three different frozen fruits, blueberries, mango chunks and peaches; frozen fruit will create a cold and thick texture without needing the addition of ice.
Banana- Every smoothie needs a creamy texture and the banana will be used as a sweetener as well as a thicker to create a smooth consistency. For a blueberry smoothie with no banana, you can substitute it for avocado.
Chia Seeds- Small black seeds that are loaded with protein and fiber and will also be used as a thickening agent for the smoothie.
Maca Powder -Adding a nutty and earthy flavor to this fruity combination. Maca is known to boost your energy. If you don't have this ingredient it is a small amount and can be left out of your blueberry protein smoothie.
Protein Powder- There are a variety of protein powders that you can use but be sure that the ingredients are natural and no additives. I rotating between protein powder and collagen powder.
Almond Milk-I chose to use vanilla almond milk to make this blueberry protein smoothie, but you can use any milk that you prefer. The milk will be the only liquid in the smoothie and will help create a smoothie and creamy texture.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- In the cup of the blender, combine all the ingredients and blend on high speed until smooth and creamy
- Pour the Blueberry Smoothie into two glasses and serve immediately
What are Chia Seeds?

What is Maca Powder?
A Peruvian grown root that is in the same family as broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage, Maca is used in a powder form and has an earthy and nutty flavor. Maca powder adds vitamins and minerals to your smoothie and is known to give you a boost of energy.
Expert Tips and FAQS
- Storage: I love making these for carpool pick up, so I make them in advance and pour them into my smoothie cups and freeze them until I am ready to pick them up. Once they are sitting in the car they will defrost and be ready to drink.
- Equippment: You definitely need a high quality blender to make the best and creamiest blueberry smoothies
- Protein Powder or Collagen Powder: Either one is great and will add so many wonderful benefits to your smoothie. Adding protein powder will increase the protein in this blueberry smoothie to over 15 grams per serving which will make you full longer.
Yes! If you make the smoothie in advance, I would recommend pouring the smoothie into the glass jar and freezing it until you are ready to enjoy.
No, but it does create a thicker and cold smoothie and you do not have to add ice cubes.
Blueberry is the key ingredients, but if you don't love mango or peaches you can definitely change this for another frozen fruit. We also love pineapple added to our smoothies.
