This Hibiscus Margarita combines your favorite tequila, fresh squeezed lime juice, cointreau (or triple sec) and a homemade hibiscus simple syrup that is to die for. The hibiscus adds a beautiful color and a subtle berry flavor that balances the citrus with a little sweet. Serve it over ice with a salted rim and a fresh flower for garnish and you will have a cocktail that tastes just as stunning as it looks.

    The Perfect Pairing

The hibiscus margarita is a great cocktail to serve on a casual evening or for a more formal event. If you are hosting a casual dinner party, this margarita pairs perfectly with our favorite Chicken Avocado Enchiladas.

    What is Hibiscus?

Hibiscus is made from dried hibiscus flowers, often used to brew herbal tea. It has a tart, berry like flavor that creates a beautiful deep pink color when steeped. You can find dried hibiscus flowers in the tea aisle at specialty grocery stores or a Mexican market. The simple syrup is made of three ingredients; sugar, water and dried hibiscus flower and makes this cocktail extra special.

    Ingredient Notes

A clear glass with salt on the rim and a bright pink liquid and a purple orchid flower on top.

    Tequila
Use a good quality blanco tequila for the cleanest, brightest flavor.

    Dried Hibiscus Flowers
These are steeped in simple syrup to create the most delicious syrup. Look for food grade dried hibiscus in the tea isles.

    Fresh Lime Juice
Freshly squeezed lime juice is key. Bottled lime juice will not give you the same flavor.

    Orange Liqueur
Triple sec or cointreau are both great options and add a great flavor to the margarita.

    Salt or Sugar Rim
Choose salt, tajin or sugar for the rim of your glass to enhance the flavors and make this cocktail look as beautiful as it tastes.

    • Balance the flavor: If its tastes to tart add a little more syrup or too sweet add more lime!
    • Chill you glass: For an extra refresh8ing experience chill the glass.
    • Make it spicy: Add a slice of jalapeño to the shaker or use tajin for the rim of the glass
    • Batch for a crowd: This is a great cocktail for a crowd. Just multiply the ingredients and mix in a large pitcher. Add ice and sparkling water to each glass.
    • Try it frozen: Blend all ingredients with ice for a frozen hibiscus margarita
