What is Hibiscus?

Hibiscus is made from dried hibiscus flowers, often used to brew herbal tea. It has a tart, berry like flavor that creates a beautiful deep pink color when steeped. You can find dried hibiscus flowers in the tea aisle at specialty grocery stores or a Mexican market. The simple syrup is made of three ingredients; sugar, water and dried hibiscus flower and makes this cocktail extra special.
Ingredient Notes

Tequila
Use a good quality blanco tequila for the cleanest, brightest flavor.
Dried Hibiscus Flowers
These are steeped in simple syrup to create the most delicious syrup. Look for food grade dried hibiscus in the tea isles.
Fresh Lime Juice
Freshly squeezed lime juice is key. Bottled lime juice will not give you the same flavor.
Orange Liqueur
Triple sec or cointreau are both great options and add a great flavor to the margarita.
Salt or Sugar Rim
Choose salt, tajin or sugar for the rim of your glass to enhance the flavors and make this cocktail look as beautiful as it tastes.
