A cocktail that shows off its class, sophistication and elegance, this Classic French 75 Cocktail is ready to attend your next spring and summer soiree! Easy to sip on and also a perfect pairing for light and fresh food combinations, such as light appetizers, seafood like our favorite Shrimp Orzo Salad or even perfect for a decadent brunch with favorites like eggs Benedict or this French Onion Tart.

The History of The French 75

Dating back to the World War I Era, the French 75 Cocktail first appeared at the iconic Harry's New York Bar in Paris France. This cocktail was said to be named after the French 75mm field gun that was a powerful artillery piece that was used during the war. Its potent combination of gin and champagne packs a punch and is just as powerful as the weapon itself.

    Simple Ingredients

A crystal cut glass jar with a spout, filled with a liquid and a lemon peel.

Gin-Use your favorite Gin. This will add a delicious botanical flavor to this cocktail.

Lemon Juice- Fresh squeezed lemon juice is the only way to go! I also love adding the lemon peel to the simple syrup for an extra punch of flavor and a lemon twist for garnish.

Simple Syrup- For a touch of sweet, this simple syrup is easy to make with only two ingredients.

Champagne- Chilled champagne is the final touch of this citrus cocktail. You don't have to use any super fancy champagne, just one you like that is not too sweet.

Tips and Variations To Make The Best French 75

What type of Gin should I use?

A dry gin is the best for this recipe, but always use one you love.

Can I use Prosecco for a French 75?

Prosecco or champagne both work great for this recipe. Just do not use anything very sweet.

Can I use bottled lemon juice for a French 75?

No! It is really best to use fresh lemon juice for this cocktail. You don't need a lot so just squeeze one lemon.
