We are officially jumping into August, which means back to school and back to all the homework and after school sports and activities! There are so many great things about getting back to a routine but the dread of making lunches every morning and being prepared for after school snacking is real. I have found that prepping lunch in the evening has saved me from feeling chaotic and preparing an after school snack board in the evening or morning so that when we get home from school I can just pull it out of the fridge and we have happy kids and a healthy snack!
There are so many ways to create the perfect After School Snack Board and really it depends on your what your kids love, but having a this prepared and set on the counter will give your kids the opportunity to try new things and ultimately fall in love with healthy eating. Everything from apple sticks, grapes, celery sticks, carrot sticks, cubes cheese, fresh cut deli meats and the most adorable alphabet graham crackers are a great variety to add to your kids snack board. I also love adding one sweet treat like our favorite brownie or these fun PBJ Bars to surprise them and make them feel extra special after a long day at school.
What You Need To Create The Perfect After School Snack
Fruits- A variety of fruit is a great option for an after school snack. I love adding grapes and apple slices to my snack board, but fresh strawberries and blueberries are also a great addition.
Veggies- There are an endless amount of veggies that are great for snacking, but my kids love carrots and celery for a crunchy healthy snack.
Deli Meats- Adding a little protein to this snack board will keep them full and satisfied longer. Turkey, salami, turkey pepperoni or even beef jerky sticks are a great options for a boost of protein.
Cheese- Cubed cheddar cheese is a favorite in our home and easy to pair with crackers or a slice of apple.
Crackers- Sweet and savory crackers pair well with all the dips, protein and cheeses that are added . I love adding these alphabet graham crackers for a fun after school theme while working on homework.
Dips and Spreads- The options are endless, but I find that my kids love dipping their apples, celery or crackers in peanut butter and this keeps them full longer. Almond butter or sunflower butter, hummus or a simple veggie dip are also great options to add for dipping.
Sweet Treats- Mini chocolate chip m&m cookies are super fun to keep in your freezer and pull out a few when you need a sweet treat, but I also love this old fashion Cosmic Brownie or our favorite Better Than Boxed Brownie that can be cut into bite size pieces for a small and delicious end of school surprise.
