There is a love hate relationship with one of the most popular halloween candies, candy corn. Some people love it and some people don't like it at all, but either way these Homemade Candy Corn Rice Krispie Treats are a must. They don't taste like the candy, but are the most festive treat for your next Halloween party.
Made with three layers of our Ultimate Rice Krispie Treat, vanilla, orange and lemon and a touch of food coloring to create this beautiful layered look. So easy to make with only three key ingredients and vanilla extract, orange zest and lemon zest to bring out the flavor.

Rice Krispie Treat Ingredients
- Butter- Unsalted Butter is a key ingredients to make this dessert so delicious
- Marshmallows- Be sure to use mini marshmallows and always check the expiration date of your marshmallows.
- Vanilla Extract- I always add vanilla extract into my dessert and especially rice krispie treats. Don't skip this ingredient!
- Citrus Zest-Orange and Lemon Zest are added to two of the layers. If you prefer not to add this citrus flavor to your rice krispie treats then you can remove the zest from the recipe and these will be a vanilla flavor.
- Rice Krispie Cereal-The main focus of this dessert!
Step-by-Step Instructions
Prepare the Vanilla Rice Krispie Treat Layer
- Prepare a 8x8 cake pan with pan spray and parchment paper; set aside.
- In a small saucepan, combine the mini marshmallows, butter and vanilla extract and gently stir until the butter and marshmallows are completely melted; remove from the heat.
- Pour the rice Krispie cereal over the melted marshmallows and stir until fully combined.
- Pour the rice Krispie cereal into the prepared cake pan and press down using a piece of parchment paper until flat and smooth.
Prepare the Orange Rice Krispie Treat Layer
- In a small saucepan, combine the mini marshmallows, butter and orange zest and gently stir until the butter and marshmallows are completely melted; remove from the heat and add in one to two drops of orange food coloring.
- Pour the rice Krispie cereal over the melted marshmallows and stir until fully combined
- Pour the Orange Rice Krispie into the prepared cake pan over the vanilla Rice Krispie Treats and press down using a piece of parchment paper until flat and smooth
Prepare the Yellow (Lemon) Rice Krispie Treat Layer
- In a small saucepan, combine the mini marshmallows, butter and lemon zest and gently stir until the butter and marshmallows are completely melted; remove from the heat and add in one to two drops of yellow food coloring.
- Pour the rice Krispie cereal over the melted marshmallows and stir until fully combined.
- Pour the Yellow Rice Krispie into the prepared loaf pan over the orange Rice Krispie Treats and press down using a piece of parchment paper until flat and smooth.
Cut and Serve the Candy Corn Rice Krispie Treats
- Once the Candy Corn Rice Krispie Treats are layered allow them to cool at room temperature for one hour or place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Remove the rice krispie treats from the cake pan and place on a cutting board. Cut the Rice Krispie Treats into 1 ½ inch strips. Lay the strips flat to where you can see the three layers and then cut into triangles.
- Serve or store in an air tight container for 3-4 days!
