Jump to Recipe - Print Recipe

Perfectly sweet and crunchy, Malted Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats are the Easter dessert of your dreams. Made with malted milk powder for a nutty flavor and festive malted egg candies giving these a chocolaty and colorful crunch.

Nine square of rice krispie treats with malted eggs and marshmallows on top.

My favorite time of year and quite possibly my favorite candy of the season. Malted Egg Candies are such a fun way to add color and crunch to your favorite desserts and especially the most popular Classic Rice Krispie Treats. Kids and adults love these sweet and crunchy treats, but adding the malted milk powder for a creamy and slightly nutty flavor take this dessert to another level.

We are huge fans of Rice Krispie treats of all kinds and will find a way to incorporate them into every event or dinner party we have. Chocolate Caramel Rice Krispie Squares are a fancy take on this classic treat or keeping things kid friendly with a Cookies and Cream Rice Krispie Treat.

    Ingredients

Bowls of mini marshmallows, rice Krispie cereal, butter cubed, malted milk powder, egg malted candies and vanilla extract.
    • Cereal- Classic Rice Krispie Cereal is the best for these crunchy chewy bars, but can also be replaced with cheerios for something a little different!
    • Marshmallows-Mini marshmallows melt the best when making Rice Krispie treats. I prefer to use the minis over the large.
    • Malted Milk Powder- This is going to give the treats a sweet and nutty flavor that will surprise you in the best way! If you don't have malted milk powder you can leave it out of the recipe and they will still be delicious.
    • Easter Malted Egg Candies- This candy will take the Classic Rice Krispie Treat to the next level! Adding a chocolate, malt ball and a colorful addition will make these super festive for Easter. If you don't have the Malted Eggs, you can always replace it will seasonal M&Ms!

Helpful Tips and FAQS To Make The Best Rice Krispie Treats

    Fresh Ingredients
When making Rice Krispie Treats, make sure to always check the expiration date of your marshmallows. Expired marshmallows will create a very gummy texture that will not taste great!

    Cutting Rice Krispie Treats
The best part about making bars is that you can cut them into any shape and size that you want. I love a thick square, but you can cut these into any easter shape or even bite size squares for large group.

    Storage
Once the Easter treats are cooled, you can wrap them in the pan before cutting and keep them at room temperature for 3-4 days. If they are already cut, wrap each individually in plastic wrap and place them in an airtight container to stay fresh.

These are very thick, can I make them thinner?

I love thick rice Krispie treats so I use a 9x9 square pan, but you can use a 9x13 pan and spread them out for a thinner and smaller treat.

    What is Malted Milk Powder?

Malted milk powder is made from evaporated milk, barley and wheat and is best known to make Malted Milkshakes. This powder gives an extra flavor boost and adds a creamy, milky and slight nutty flavor. Because it is made with wheat and barley, malted milk powder is not gluten free.

Can I remove the Malted Milk Powder?

Yes! These Rice Krispie Treats are delicious without the Malted Milk Powder, but even better with it! The powder will add a delicious sweet and nutty flavor that you get when you eat chocolate malt balls.

How do I store the Rice Krispie Treats ?

Wrap the rice Krispie treat in plastic wrap or store in an airtight container for up 3-4 days.

Can I freeze Rice Krispie Treats?

Yes! Rice Krispie Treats freeze great if you layer them with parchment paper in an airtight container or ziplock bag. When you are ready to serve them, remove them from the freezer and allow them to sit out at room temperature for at least one hour.

How do I prevent the marshmallow from sticking all over my hands?

When you are pouring the treats into the pan, spray the spatula with non stick spray and then use a piece of parchment paper to press the Rice Krispie Treats down to spread evenly with no mess.
